TITANS OF MAVERICKS

The Titans of Mavericks is the big event in Half Moon Bay gathering amazing surfers. But for the event to happen, conditions have to be perfect.

It means a strong storm, a specific tide, a swell coming from the right direction, and of course day light. Optimists forecast 10 contestable days, pessimists 1 to 2 per year.  In 2011 and 2012, there was not one single opportunity, so the contest never happened. If in 2010, 2013 and 2014, the event was ON. And on March 31st, 2015, the time window unfortunately closed on a No-Go.

The concept is very simple and insanely crazy ! Titans are pre-selected and will have 24h to come to HMB when D-day will be announced!

Formerly Mavericks Invitationals, the now called Titans of Mavericks dropped out of the Big Wave World Tourbeginning of 2014.

The event will possibly take place between November 1st , 2015 and March 31st, 2016. Based on former years experience, the window has been extended with 2 months ahaed of the usual dates to hopefully get a better chance to see the competition happen.

For public safety, local authorities will close off all roads toPillar Point, including access to the beach and bluffs. So you have two options :

1/ stay home and watch the contest online on the Titans website.

2/ come to Half Moon Bay for the Titans of Mavericks Festival. In 2014, the Festival cinsisted in an outdoor event taking place on the grounds of the Oceano Hotel & Spa at Princeton Harbor, located on the road to Mavericks and across from Jeff Clark’s legendary Mavericks Surf Shop. There will be big HD screens, music, food trucks, a skateboard park... and the awards ceremony.

Currently - at teh time we are writting - the alert level is orange, which means that ''a potential swell is on the forecast''.

And considering the weather forecast for the 2nd week of December, surfers, be cautious and Titans... stay alert! Read Sneaker waves, giant 18-foot swells to pound the Northern California coast on SF Gate.
