Nosa Ria

Nosa Ría Market is a specialty food store located in Hayes Valley in San Francisco with a distinct offering that includes authentic, high-quality products sourced solely from Spain.

If San Francisco is often considered the most european city in America, its Hayes Valley neighborhood is definitely a very european district: many fashion stores, food shops (Gourmet Corner, La Boulange, Fatted Calf...) and restaurants (Frjtz, Bar Jules...) with a European touch have settled there.

Nosa Ria Market is the latest European addition to the neighborhood. The food and wine shop offers a well rounded assortment of products including dry goods, fresh cheeses, cured meats, conserved seafoods and fish, sweets and wines from Spain. Their names are an invitation to cook and travel... chorizo, lomo, jamon serrano, manchego, turron...

Nosa Ría Market also offers kitchenwares, including ceramics, cookware and cookbooks if you are looking for ideas to cook all these Spanish specialties.

A few words from Krista, the owner of Nosa Ria...

What is the story behing Nosa Ria?

Manuel and I share a passion for food, cooking and Spanish culture and decided to take the next step and make their passion for Spanish food and wine a business with Nosa Ría Market.

Nosa Ría Market is the first and only specialty food store in San Francisco specializing in foods and wines solely imported from Spain.

What about the name Nosa Ria ?

The name Nosa Ría, 'Our Bay' in the official language of Galicia, was born from our love of the two Bay Areas that we call 'home'.  Our store is located in San Francisco, a city within an area commonly referred to as The Bay Area.  On the other side of the Atlantic, Galicia's most populated city, Vigo, is located on the 'Ría de Vigo' (Bay of Vigo).

The 'San Francisco Bay' is a prominent natural fixture in the minds and hearts of San Franciscan's and tourists alike – with the Golden Gate Bridge traversing The Bay, it is probably one of the most photographed areas in San Francisco.

Similarly, in Galicia, the 'Bay of Vigo' is one of the most noticeable landmarks of the north-western region of Spain.  The city of Vigo provides the majority of Galicia's total gross domestic product, making it the most important city in Galicia.  The 'Port of Vigo' is the largest fishing port in Europe and one of the busiest in transportation.  It  includes a large marina, with one of Spain's most exclusive yacht clubs, and it is also home to the world largest fishing company 'Pescanova'.

How do you select your products ?

Our products come from a hand-full of distributors. We choose only products that we love. Nosa Ría's products include items that represent some of the best known and desired foods from Spain. Food and family are the heart of Spain.  We seek out authentic, high-quality foods, especially those made by small, artisanal family producers.

What are the specialties that you would recommend to LostinSF's readers?

Jamon and cheese are always a big hit, and our best sellers. We can also offer the whole leg/jamon, upon special order.
